The A7 motorway runs east of town, Kiel is 30 minutes away via the A210, Neumuenster 30 and Flensburg 50. Buedelsdorf borders directly, Eckernfoerde is 25 kilometres north east and Schleswig 30 kilometres north.

On the Kiel Canal locks, bridges and bank structures are continuously overhauled, which occupies steel erectors, welders and hydraulic engineering specialists. Local shipbuilding produces special purpose vessels. In Buedelsdorf right next door a foundry and construction suppliers produce.
